The council is asking Star readers to nominate the next Sheffield Legend and explain why they should be given the honour.
Those eligible for the awards must either have been born in Sheffield or have a very strong association with the city, and must have achieved recognition at national or, preferably, international level. [...]

The chosen Sheffield Legend will have their name inscribed on a plaque set into the pavement outside the town hall, in the style of Hollywood Boulevard.
Sheffield Legends recognises the city’s heroes in all areas, such as arts, science, sport and industry. So far 13 celebrities have been honoured who all have a strong connection with Sheffield.
They are World Cup-winning goalkeeper Gordon Banks, actor Sean Bean, musicians Jarvis Cocker and Joe Cocker, athlete Sebastian Coe, footballer Derek Dooley, boxing trainer Brendan Ingle, rock band Def Leppard, designer David Mellor, writer and comedy star Michael Palin, artist Joe Scarborough, astronaut Helen Sharman and rock climber Joe Simpson.

Sometimes bad things happen to great casts – just look at Outlaw. You’d think that putting Sean Bean, Bob Hoskins and Danny Dyer in the same movie would be a recipe for a taut, finessed actioner, but in this case, the movie simply doesn’t gel. It attempts to engage themes involving the war in Iraq into its cynical frame (which is, of course, wildly admirable), but its final twenty minutes are beyond ridiculous – Outlaw’s coda is so painfully odious that it all but undoes the noble work done by its performers. |

O2 is to spend £5m refreshing its brand including a change to the ‘Its your O2 See what you can do’ strapline introduced in May 2006 and made famous by Sean Bean’s unique delivery.
